This is one of the few neighborhood Cuban restaurants that wouldn't feel out of place in Miami. The atmosphere is family-friendly; the menu has classic dishes just like grandma made them. The tender lechon (roast pig) may alone be worth the trip, but there's a lot more to try.

"Ten years before the United States restored diplomatic relations with Cuba, this able ambassador debuted with strapping plates of chopped roast pork sweetened with onions and shredded beef swollen with red wine, the classic ropa vieja. Today, the food from Cuban native Mayra Lopez remains homey and impressive. … The only change to the picture in recent years is a plus: The family-run enterprise has doubled in size, to 140 seats in two arty dining rooms, and now sports a bar." "The rice here is textbook, each grain distinct and slicked with oil; so are the beans, delivered in an inky simmered soup that sings of garlic and oregano. Devotees of Cuban cooking will know at once that we’re telling you about more than, yes, the rice and beans.
