Chicago-based Mercadito Hospitality hopes is planning on opening a branch of Mercadito in D.C. According to a representative from the company, the new restaurant will come to the Mariott Marquis hotel. Thus far there is no set opening date, but the restaurant is hopeful to begin service this winter. Mercadito offers Mexican and Latin fare, including tacos, elote, and a vast number of tequilas in stock.

A few weeks ago the Mariott Marquis suffered the theft of 400 Moscow Mule mini-cups during the hotel’s opening celebration. Though at the time the hotel stated that there were more than enough cups to go around still, now they seem to be changing their tune. High Velocity, the sports bar at the hotel, is offering an amnesty program in hopes that some of the burglars will come clean. Guests who return the cups will receive half-off pricing on the regular Moscow Mule, no questions asked. The promotion will last until July 6.

The Mariott Marquis held its grand opening Tuesday night, offering a smorgasbord of food and drink for patrons. Sushi, crab corn dogs, tacos, charcuterie and oysters were on the menu, as well as an interactive bourbon bar and a sampling of takes on the classic Moscow Mule. After tallying the votes, the crowd favorite take on the drink is now offered at the hotel permanently. However, the cups in which the drinks were served have gone missing — over 400 cups have been taken. The hotel began the night with 1200 and ended with 800.

Meet the Virgin-Gin, Mariott Marquis's New Signature Cocktail

The Mariott Marquis in downtown D.C. has updated its signature cocktail. At last night’s grand opening, visitors voted on their favorite take on a classic: the Moscow Mule. The winner of the night was made with Catoctin Creek gin, ginger beer, simple syrup, a twist of lime and topped with mint. Called the “Virgin-Gin,” it will now be offered on the hotel’s permanent drink menu.

Marriott Marquis Opens Today Near Convention Center

Eater has word that the Marriott Marquis opens today near the Convention Center, becoming D.C.’s biggest hotel. According to a press release, the hotel’s food and beverage options will be supervised by Executive Chef Matthew Morrison, a D.C. native, and will include: Anthem, a casual dining restaurant; The Dignitary, an upscale lounge with craft cocktails and a patio; High Velocity, a sports bar; and Lobby Bar, an upscale hotel bar. The hotel also plans a specialty restaurant, but details haven’t been released.
