Samuel Beckett's is a step above the typical Irish bar with better renditions of classic dishes than you'll find elsewhere. The lamb burger, in particular, is a standout on a menu that's consistently satisfying. There's also a large outdoor dining area.

This modern Italian restaurant replaced The Curious Grape in its location off the main drag in Shirlington and immediately became the best dining option in the neighborhood. The dining room is a bit bland and there have been some recent reports of inconsistency. However, it remains an excellent choice for anyone craving more ambitious cooking than you generally find in the area.

Cheesetique is known as a great cheese shop, but it's also got a nice menu of light fare, with great mac and cheese, and a good selection of wines by the glass.

"Leave it to cheese obsessive Jill Erber to transform a gooey crock of French onion soup into something even gooier—a sourdough grilled cheese spilling with Gruyère and deeply caramelized onions. At her twin wine bars, each fronted by a gourmet shop, she raids her sprawling cheese cases for pretty much every dish on the menu. …" See Full Review…»
